Synopsis: You see them everywhere. Walk-ons. People who stand aside waiting until the spectacle is over.

How does such a walk-on perceive this, our, world and it’s changing that he is not actively in-volved in and does not want to be involved in? Without taking notice of this process, as time went by, the walk-on has thrown himself into loneliness, uselessness and thoughtlessness. The walk-on has deprived himself continuously of his own individuality by neglecting – and finally forgetting about – his opinion, his courage, his fears, his needs.

A WALK-ON (DER STATIST) does not tell a story. The spectator only experiences fragments of what could be a story. The movie allows us to perceive the world through the eyes and ears of a walk-on. ... until the moment when also he, our only auxiliary, takes a decision and dissociates from the camera, even avoids the camera.

Thus we see not only the tragic situation of a social outcast, but moreover we become part of a filmic experiment, in which current meanings such as walk-on, protagonist, camera-eye, range of sight and gap of perception are put into contexts.
