Students Film Forum Foundation is organizing a presentation of backup festival /new.media.in.film/ Weimar, Germany.
18. - 19. December at 18:00hr in Center for Culture and Debate - 15 Luben Karavelov Str. , Sofia.
The program includes a photo exhibition from the festival, two installations from the festival ‘loungelab’ and screenings of selected short films and music videos from the last edititions of backup. The official presentation will be hosted by Juliane Fuchs /festival director/, members of the organizing committee of backup and students from Bauhaus University, Weimar.

The event is co-organized by: Centre for Culture and Debate ‘Red House’ and Goethe Institut – Sofia.

Lecture of the world famous film producer & director Menahem Golan.


Students Film Forum, in co-operation with Embassy of Israel in Sofia and New Bulgarian University Ñîôèÿ /Film, TV & Show Busines Department/ , organized a lecture of the world famous film producer & director Menahem Golan, who was on a brief visit in Bulgaria on the occasion of the premiere of his last film Return to India.
In the full hall of NBU Menahem Golan gave worth advices to the Bulgarian film students, shared his own experience and told interesting stories from his long lasting work with the great stars of the world of cinema.
Mr. Golan spoke about his next film, which will be shot in Bulgaria, and some of the attendees had the luck directly to be included in the shooting team of the film.

Tsanko Vasilev, chairman of SFFF, personally will inform the guests of backup.forum Eastern Europe/ Bulgaria about the festival regulations and will invite them to take part in the next edition of ISFFA Balchik '05.

The next appearence of Students Film Forum Foundation in backup is on Saturday (09.10.) when there will be screened the selection of the best films, which were produced in the workshop of the 2nd Int. Students Festival of Film Art Balchik '04 - Johnnie Oddbal's 1st 48hr Film Challenge in Eastern Europe

2nd International Students Festival
of Film Art

The Festival aims to popularize and develop
the film art created by students.

Festival organizer is
Students Film Forum Foundation.

The film forum took place in the architectural-park complex The Palace in Balchik from 21st till 26th September and became one of the most significant film events in Bulgaria in 2004.
More than 90 short films created by students from around the world were screened within the competition program, divided into three categories – feature, documentary and animation. Sixteen film academies from ten countries from three continents took part in the event, among them were LFS – London, United Kingdom; ”Camera Obscura” School of Arts – Tel Aviv, Israel; HFF “Konrad Wolf” - Potsdam-Babelsberg, Germany; UCINE – Buenos Aires, Argentina; NFTS - Beaconsfield, United Kingdom; VGIK – Moscow, Russia.
About 100 short films were additionally demonstrated in five side programs, curated for the Festival by backup festival - Germany, Flow Distribution - Canada, The German Film School for digital production - Germany, Spark Video Canada, Center for Culture and Debate Red House – Bulgaria.
The awards were assigned by an international jury, consisting of seven members.
Official guests at the Festival were representatives of various Bulgarian cultural institutions and foreign diplomatic missions in Bulgaria, as well as major professionals of the Bulgarian arts and film branch.
As a workshop within the Festival was held the First ‘48hr Film Challenge’ in Eastern Europe. The event was hosted personally by Johnnie Oddball, the British film maker and producer – author of the initiative, whose visit to Bulgaria was sponsored by Students Film Forum Foundation, AMD and British Council in Sofia. In the ‘48hr Film Challenge’ in Balchik participated more than 130 young Bulgarian film makers.
There were detailed reports on the Festival in the Bulgarian public media, as well as in the specialized press (Kultura news paper, Kino magazine, Ekran magazine, LIK/BTA magazine), on the national radio stations /Bulgarian National Radio, Darik Radio/, on the major public TV stations in Bulgaria as well: Bulgarian National Television, BTV and Nova TV, which were media partners of the initiative.
